April was happy, healthy, hard-working, and living with little worry until July 2021, when she was airlifted to Richmond, VA for emergency brain surgery in hopes of removing a tumor that was discovered at her local hospital after a CT scan. Her fight started that day, and she refuses to give up. It's been a hard, long year. So much has changed for her but the one thing that hasn't changed is her positive attitude which is a true attribute. She has always been feisty and strong-willed; those are coming in handy more so now than ever.
April was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a fatal and terminal brain cancer, just after surgery. She has gone through several treatments plans and continues in a clinical trial at UVA. Glioblastoma is said to be the most aggressive type of cancer with an only 40% survival rate in the 1st year.
April has written a powerful biography to bring hope and awareness to this disease. She has shared her life and fears in her writing; documenting the challenges, changes, and even the joy she still finds after such a shocking diagnosis. Her story is an excellent read if you were like her: desperate for encouragement & hope at the lowest point in life or if you just want to feel the power of prayer, love & positivity on a dark day.
Currently, April is 13 months post-diagnosis. She still enjoys her family, friends, and travels. April treats every day like the gift it is.
